How We Make a Difference:
NJ MentalHealthCares helps people who don’t know where else to turn.
The Peer Recovery WarmLine supports people in their community.
NJ Connect for Recovery helps to open up lines of communication with loved ones.
Self-Help Group Clearinghouse helps people find or run a support group on a variety of topics.
988 connects individuals with a trained crisis counselor who can help.
The MHANJ’s Call Center serves as a hub for support and resources for individuals and family members regarding mental health and substance use conditions. Feedback from callers indicates the important impact the Call Center has on our friends and neighbors; not to mention the sheer volume of calls, which has drastically increased over the last few years.
Since the COVID-19 pandemic began, the Center’s New Jersey MentalHealthCares Helpline, joined the New Jersey Department of Human Services, FEMA and SAMHSA in the Hope and Healing emotional support and crisis counseling program, responding to more than 59,000 calls and texts.
Some days are fine, and everything seems okay. Some days may bring mental health challenges and/or substance use challenges for ourselves or our families. The MHANJ’s Call Center staff members understand and are available to help New Jerseyans, providing a gentle reminder that there is always hope.
“Members of our Call Center team are trained, caring individuals, dedicated to providing emotional support to callers and assisting them in getting the help they need. In addition to providing emotional support, information and referral, our staff follow strategic protocols to assure the safety of callers who may need emergency assistance,” said Betty Jean, MA, LPC, CCTP, MHANJ’s Director of Call Center Services. “We encourage individuals to reach out and call us if they need to talk or if they are concerned about a loved one’s mental health or substance use.”
